Downtown Event Center makes a big economic impact in 2022 with more than $14 Million
The Rocky Mount Event Center was named the ConventionSouth 2022 Readers Choice Award Winner. It is now wrapping up an exciting year. The state-of the-art entertainment and sports venue hosted 77,011 people who visited local restaurants and shops. It covers 165,000 square feet. The 165,000 sq. The year has seen events remain consistent with an estimated economic impact at $14,956,388 in 2022. This is a remarkable increase over the $9,001,384 for 2021.
Many corporate events, including weddings and receptions, were accommodated at the Event Center. It also had banquet rooms in Nash and Edgecombe as well as its fieldhouse. The BlueCross BlueShield North Carolina Foundation Fall Convening and the North Carolina Museums Council were some of its most notable events. Also, NC Agritourism Networking Association’s Annual Conference, Edgecombe County Public Schools Confvocation, and North Carolina Museums Council are other noteworthy events. Hosting the NCC Pilgrimage Conference 2022 Conference was the most important return to Rocky Mount and the facility. The three-day conference, which attracted over 3000 people, was held first at the Event Center 2021.
The Rocky Mount Event Center hosted 21 sports events, 233 catering events and local programming simultaneously. It also organized multiple celebrations to celebrate the center with the community. Barbara Green, executive director of Explore Nash County Travel and Tourism says, “We are proud that we have hosted over 50,000 residents and tourists to the Rocky Mount Event Center.”
Rocky Mount was the first to sell out The Kings of Southern Soul concert, which Nu Planet Entertainment produced. Over 3,500 people attended the event, including several Southern Soul musicians such as Tucka and Calvin Richardson. D Chill Spot, a downtown Rocky Mount business, returned to the Reggae Fest with international reggae singer Beres Hammond. HER Entertainment hosted two shows. They had a Mother’s Day show with R&B singers Case, Silk and Tank and a Hip-Hop concert at Downeast Viking Classic Weekend with Jeezy, Plies. FaithFest Rocky Mount, featuring Christian musicians Tasha Layton and Rhette Walker, was held in Downtown for the first-time.
Spooktacular Oktoberfest was a big community event. It offered free activities such as face painting, bounce houses, hayrides and face painting. There were also nerf war zones, music, basketball, volleyball and corn hole. Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers and Tractor Supply Co. were some of the local businesses that donated candy or giveaways to children. The Game Day in-house entertainment center was open to the 2,000 guests. It features 17 climbing walls, an arcade, a ropes course and soft play/ Ballocity.
Game Day was used for all-day summer camps that were partnered with City of Rocky Mount Parks and Rec. The Athletics Division included a week-long basketball camp as well as a week-long volleyball camp. The basketball skills were taught to the youth by Justin Griffith from North Carolina Wesleyan University, while Tabitha Wilcox, one of the coaches at Wilson Elite Volleyball Club, was there as a coach.
The Downtown multi-use, state-of the-art facility is capable of much more. With a tournament for volleyball on the first weekend in January, the complex will be moving at full speed towards 2023. Every weekend, tournaments will be held until June. There is one spot left for Kings of Southern Soul’s second annual Kings of Southern Soul.
